When I went to the nursery this spring, I grabbed 2 different varieties of tomatoes off of the shelf. I wanted 2 different beefsteak type. One isn't doing too well, sorry to say. Four feet tall and NO BLOOMS. The other turned out to be cherry tomatoes! I should really read the label before I buy next time. Anyway, here is my FIRST HARVEST! Duane, maybe we could have a contest for the smallest tomato this year? Yes, that is a great idea! I WIN!

Ellis Island

I never realized that my grandfather came in to America through Ellis Island! DUH! I always thought that they came through Canada. Well, I was WRONG! Here is a photo of the ship that he crossed the Atlantic on in 1906. It was called the "Vaderland". NO NOT DARTH VADER, you goober. It's the Dutch word for homeland. Just 60 feet wide and less than 600 feet long. What a treasure trove of information there is to be had at www.ellisisland.org! Ship manifests and photos. Fun fun fun.
